Exciting news is on the horizon as Samara Weaving, known for her roles in “Ready or Not” and “Scream VI,” takes the lead in the upcoming film “Azrael,” which is generating a lot of buzz in the industry. Here are the latest details on this eagerly anticipated project.

Republic Pictures has secured the North American distribution rights to “Azrael,” a high-concept action-horror film produced by C2 Motion Picture Group. This acquisition comes as part of a substantial seven-figure deal, with the film set to be distributed by Paramount Global Distribution.

“Azrael” is a unique and thrilling project that features Samara Weaving in the lead role. The film was directed by E.L. Katz. The screenplay for this exciting venture was penned by Simon Barrett, whose previous credits include “The Guest” and “You’re Next.”

The film’s premise is intriguing: “In a world where silence reigns, a devout female-led community embarks on a relentless hunt for a young woman (played by Weaving) who has managed to escape her captivity. However, their pursuit is not in vain, as Azrael is recaptured by the community’s ruthless leaders. Her fate is grim, as she is destined to be sacrificed to appease an ancient evil lurking deep within the surrounding wilderness. Yet, Azrael is determined to secure her freedom and ensure her survival at any cost. From the gritty and unyielding parable of sacrifice and salvation emerges an immersive, real-time action-horror tale, crafted by the visionary minds of Simon Barrett and E.L. Katz.”

The rights to “Azrael” were fiercely contested in a competitive bidding situation last fall, ultimately won by Jason Cloth and Dave Caplan’s C2 Motion Picture Group. They not only secured the rights but also fully financed and produced the film, adding to the project’s anticipation.
