A few weeks back, news broke that “Ready or Not 2” had entered the development phase, with talks of Adam Robitel, known for works like “The Taking of Deborah Logan,” “Insidious: The Last Key,” and the “Escape Room” franchise, possibly helming the sequel to the 2019 blockbuster. Additionally, it was revealed that Samara Weaving is set to reprise her starring role.

Entertainment Weekly recently caught up with the original “Ready or Not” directors, Tyler Gillett and Matt Bettinelli-Olpin, to get the scoop on the progress.

“It’s getting figured out. That’s what we’ll say: ‘Ready or Not 2’ is getting figured out,” Gillett shared with EW, confirming earlier reports. “What we can say is that there is a script that is an absolute gem of a sequel. However it comes together, and in whatever capacity we’re involved in its making, we’re thrilled that it’s in the works.”

Reflecting on the unexpected depth of the story, Gillett added, “I don’t think we knew after making [‘Ready or Not’] that there would be so much story left to tell. We’re so proud of what that first movie is, we’re so proud of what the sequel is. We’re just really excited, and fingers crossed that it gets made.” Bettinelli-Olpin chimed in, expressing confidence in the project’s stewards, “And with Searchlight and Samara, they’re not gonna let it down.”

The original film introduced a captivating mythology surrounding the wealthy Le Domas family and their devilish wedding night traditions, setting the stage for potential narrative expansions. Even with the climactic events of the first movie, there’s ample room for the story to evolve.

As a humorous reminder from Wikipedia, “The sole survivor of the night, Grace walks out of the burning manor just as the police arrive. Upon asking her what happened, she simply replies: in-laws.”
