Upcoming from Jennifer Reeder, known for her works on V/H/S/94, Night’s End, and Knives and Skin, is the highly anticipated horror film “Perpetrator.” Having previously premiered at the prestigious Berlin International Film Festival and later at Tribeca, the movie is set to stream on Shudder and hit select theaters on September 1, 2023. While you eagerly await its release, you can catch the official trailer for “Perpetrator” on Shudder.

“Perpetrator” is being hailed as a “coming-of-age, feminist horror-noir feature.” The story revolves around Jonny Baptiste, portrayed by Kiah McKirnan, a reckless teenager sent to live with her estranged Aunt Hildie, played by Alicia Silverstone. On her 18th birthday, Jonny undergoes a profound transformation triggered by a family spell known as Forevering. As the tale unfolds, several teen girls mysteriously disappear at Jonny’s new school, prompting a mythically feral Jonny to take matters into her own hands and pursue the elusive Perpetrator.

Written and directed by Jennifer Reeder, “Perpetrator” is a Shudder Original Film that boasts an impressive cast, including Christopher Lowell, Melanie Liburd, Ireon Roach, Casimere Jollette, Ilirida Memedovski, Sasha Kuznetsov, and Greta Stolte.

This film marks Jennifer Reeder’s second feature to screen at Berlinale, following the success of her breakout hit “Knives and Skin” in 2019, which was theatrically released by IFC Midnight. Additionally, “Perpetrator” signifies her third collaboration with Shudder, with previous works including “Night’s End” from the previous year and her critically acclaimed contribution to the anthology entry “V/H/S/94.”

The horror-noir film was produced by Gregory Chambet for WTFilms and Derek Bishé for Divide/Conquer. Executive producers include Trevor Groth and Sarah Hong from 30West (known for “Triangle of Sadness”), Adam Hendricks and Greg Gilreath from Divide/Conquer, Dimitri Stephanides from WTFilms, and Emily Gotto from Shudder.
