A reimagination of Mary Shelley’s timeless horror tale is on its way to the big screen with “Lisa Frankenstein,” penned by Diablo Cody (known for “Jennifer’s Body”) and helmed by director Zelda Williams.

Empire Magazine unveiled a fresh image from “Lisa Frankenstein,” offering a closer glimpse into the world of the gothic romance, featuring Kathryn Newton (“Freaky”) and Cole Sprouse (“Riverdale”) as the central lovebirds. The pair exude concern yet coziness in the snapshot.

Scheduled for a theatrical debut on February 9, 2024, “Lisa Frankenstein” promises a unique blend of horror and comedy, boasting a stellar cast including Carla Gugino (“The Fall of the House of Usher”), Liza Soberano (“Alone/Together”), Joe Chrest (“Stranger Things”), and Henry Eikenberry (“The Crowded Room”).

The film unfolds in 1989, following the story of an unpopular high schooler who, during a lightning storm, inadvertently resurrects a dashing Victorian corpse and endeavors to mold him into her ideal partner, using a broken tanning bed from her garage.

The official plot synopsis paints a vivid picture: “A tale of burgeoning affection amidst chaos, as a misunderstood teenager and her crush—a handsome corpse—embark on a journey to seek love, happiness, and perhaps a few missing body parts along the way.”

Rated “PG-13” for its blend of intense content, bloody imagery, sexual material, language, instances of sexual assault, depictions of teen drinking, and drug-related content, “Lisa Frankenstein” weaves a thrilling narrative that spans multiple themes.

Describing the film to Empire, Cody highlighted its unique twist on the “building a man” concept popularized by ‘80s movies like “Weird Science.” She emphasized the rarity of such narratives, drawing inspiration from classics like “The Rocky Horror Picture Show” while infusing the script with her signature humor.

Produced by Diablo Cody and Mason Novick, “Lisa Frankenstein” is set to unravel more surprises and delights as its February release date draws near.
