Michael Dougherty, known for the holiday horror hit “Krampus” from 2015, left an indelible mark on Christmas terror much like he did with “Trick ‘r Treat.” Despite its franchise potential, we’ve yet to witness a sequel nearly ten years later. But could Dougherty be plotting a return for the holiday creature?

In a conversation with Collider following a recent Trick ‘r Treat screening, where Dougherty hinted at “Trick ‘r Treat 2,” he also disclosed discussions about a potential Krampus sequel.

“We have an idea for a sequel on that one, too,” Dougherty revealed.

He went on to elaborate, “It doesn’t necessarily center around a family as much as it might be about a group of strangers who are trapped somewhere.”

While this doesn’t confirm a Krampus 2, it’s intriguing that Dougherty is still exploring the prospects nearly a decade after the initial movie brought Alpine folklore to the big screen. His continued contemplation suggests potential for more tales within both the Krampus and Trick ‘r Treat realms, hinting that one might materialize sooner or later.

Keep an eye out for further updates as they unfold.

In “Krampus,” the story unfolds as “When his dysfunctional family clashes over the holidays, young Max turns his back on Christmas. Little does he know, this lack of festive spirit has unleashed the wrath of Krampus: a demonic force of ancient evil intent on punishing non-believers. All hell breaks loose as beloved holiday icons take on a monstrous life of their own, laying siege to the fractured family’s home and forcing them to fight for each other if they hope to survive.”
