Megalomaniac

The highly intense horror film, ‘Megalomaniac’, made its debut at Fantasia last year and is set to hit theaters courtesy of Dark Star Pictures this coming September.

Mark your calendars, as “Megalomaniac” is slated to grace US theaters on September 8, 2023.

Distinguished with the esteemed top Jury Prize for Best Feature at the Fantasia Film Festival, this uncompromising and grim portrayal of a serial killer takes inspiration from a chilling real-life unsolved crime.

Within the confines of “Megalomaniac,” prolific filmmaker Karim Ouelhaj, renowned Méliès d’Or awardee for “The Frozen Eye” (2016), presents his fourth feature film, arguably his most unflinching creation to date.

The narrative unfolds around Martha and Félix, the progeny of the infamous Butcher of Mons, a notorious Belgian serial killer from the 1990s. Plagued by instability and consumed by insecurities, Martha lives vicariously through the realms of social media. Meanwhile, her brother, burdened by the weight of their dark familial history, continues the grim legacy of their father’s murderous acts. Amidst workplace harassment and violent assault, the initially docile Martha descends into a state of madness, embarking on a harrowing journey through the distorted and nightmarish world inhabited by her brother.

The cast includes Eline Schumacher, Wim Willaert, Benjamin Ramon, Pierre Nisse, and Raphaëlle Lubansu.

As the release date approaches, audiences can prepare themselves for an engrossing and disturbing cinematic journey into the heart of darkness with “Megalomaniac.”
