This past Tuesday surprised many people when Insidious:  The Red Door, which just released less than a month ago, surprisingly dropped on VOD for horror fans to watch.  The film, upon release, had mediocre reviews but remains the biggest-grossing film in the Insidious franchise’s history on opening day.

The first film was written by Leah Whannell and directed by James Wan, putting both of them front-and-center in the industry as prolific horror creators. This latest entry is directed by Patrick Wilson who also starred in the first two films. He reprises his role here.

Red Door continues the story of the Lambert family as their son Josh (Ty Simpkins) who was “possessed” in the first movie is now a young adult heading off to college. Simpkins is also a returning cast member from the first film as is Rose Byrne who plays his mother Renai.

As this triptych movie arc comes to its conclusion, a spinoff of the franchise, Thread: An Insidious Tale is in the works.  That movie stars Mandy Moore and Kumail Nanjiani.

If you didn’t get a chance to watch this one on the big screen, now is your chance to finish the series in the comfort of your own home. Insidious: The Red Door is available wherever you get your paid VOD content: Amazon, Vudu, YouTube.
