Originally slated for August of 2023, Gore Culture’s first produced horror film ‘Project Paranoia‘ has been scheduled for release on VOD just after Halloween on November 10, 2023. Project Paranoia’s distribution rights were acquired at the beginning of 2023 by ‘Brain Damage Films’ and after a few delays, it seems that the movie has finally found its release date.

In ‘Project Paranoia’

“The disappearance of Andrew’s wife lowers him into depression, but when a friend steps up to help him, deciding to spend a week at his house, things start to take a turn for the worse.”

‘Project Paranoia’ represents Francesco Monti‘s directorial debut along with a talented cast: Meosha Bean (Horror Noire 2019), Andrew Lloyd Preston (Street Dreams Los Angeles, Duality), Luke Endyan (Black Panther: Wakanda Forever) and Chelsea Davis.

The film uses the found-footage approach to document the depth of depression and friendship between two friends in a situation that is more complicated and dark than it looks. While the story unfolds, the mystery deepens, the audience will choose who to believe.

It all begins when Sky (Luke Endyan) visits Andrew (Andrew Preston) after a long time of not seeing each other. Soon Sky discovers that Andrew’s wife disappearance has changed Andrew and, as he records with his camera the depth of his best friend’s depression, he realizes that things might turn deadly for him.

Project Paranoia will be a new approach to the ever-popular found-footage phenomena. A tale of two friends who enter a dark claustrophobic scenario that will test their trust and sanity.

Director Monti promises a new take on the sub-genre. A more realistic approach to self-aware filmmaking, where the film could actually take place without perverse suspension of disbelief. “The likelihood of someone recording while life-threatening situations unfold is always very questionable. I wanted to change this. After all, why can’t our deepest emotions be enough to create dread, suspense, and scare?”- Director Francesco Monti.

The film will not be a jump scare fright fest, but a delve into the psychosis of modern social issues. Fear-induced emotions such as Depression, Technological Obsession, Anxiety, and Isolation will be paramount while viewing this production.

“I believe that the simplest stories are the ones capable of leaving a mark. By exploring deep human emotions, Project Paranoia tackles issues of social anxiety, isolation, and mental depression in the aftermath of a pandemic that almost eradicated our standards of living. In the film what you see is not what you get. Things can change at any second, and viewers will find themselves in the shoes of the characters. In the movie, Andrew’s depression is a metaphor for human loneliness in a society that has turned to artifacts and technology rather than human connections. He’s a product of a damaged society that has instilled fear and paranoia in him. Has Andrew become a crazy and unstable individual or is the story that is not what it seems? You will be the judge.”-Director Francesco Monti (Read the full director statement)
