Yorgos Lanthimos, known for his distinctive films such as “The Killing of a Sacred Deer” and “Dogtooth,” is making a return to the big screen with “Poor Things.” This upcoming movie draws inspiration from Alistair Gray’s 1992 novel and offers a Frankenstein-like narrative.

In “Poor Things,” Emma Stone takes the lead role alongside Willem Dafoe, promising a captivating cinematic experience. Searchlight Pictures has slated the film for release on December 8, 2023. As we await its arrival, a striking new poster has been unveiled, teasing the intriguing world of the film.

The cast of “Poor Things” extends beyond its two headliners, featuring talented actors such as Ramy Youssef, Jerrod Carmichael, Christopher Abbott, and Mark Ruffalo.

Lanthimos’ latest creation delves into the extraordinary journey of Bella Baxter, portrayed by Emma Stone, a young woman resurrected by the brilliant yet unorthodox scientist, Dr. Godwin Baxter, played by Willem Dafoe. Under Dr. Baxter’s care, Bella is eager to absorb knowledge and experiences. However, her thirst for worldly adventures leads her to run away with Duncan Wedderburn, a cunning and debauched lawyer played by Mark Ruffalo. Together, they embark on a whirlwind adventure spanning continents. Unfettered by the prejudices of her era, Bella becomes resolute in her mission to advocate for equality and liberation.

The film “Poor Things” has been assigned an “R” rating due to its potent content, encompassing strong and pervasive sexual themes, graphic nudity, disturbing material, gore, and language.

Emma Stone, known for her exceptional performance in Lanthimos’ ruthless period comedy “The Favourite,” reunites with the director, forming a dynamic partnership with screenwriter Tony McNamara, renowned for his work on “The Great” and “Cruella.” This reunion promises to deliver a cinematic experience that is both thought-provoking and visually compelling.

With Yorgos Lanthimos at the helm, “Poor Things” holds the promise of a unique and thought-provoking exploration of human nature, morality, and equality, set against the backdrop of a mesmerizing and fantastical world.
