Director Renny Harlin, known for his work on “Deep Blue Sea,” is returning to the depths with his latest venture, “Deep Water,” twenty-five years after the original film’s release.

As reported by Screen Daily, Harlin is set to helm this shark-infested thriller, featuring two heavyweight actors, Aaron Eckhart and Ben Kingsley, in leading roles.

Joining Eckhart and Kingsley are Molly Wright from Lionsgate’s “The Best Christmas Pageant Ever,” Angus Sampson from FX’s “Fargo,” Kelly Gale from Lionsgate’s “Plane,” Li Wenhan from the Chinese-Korean K-Pop group UNIQ, and Chinese actress Nashi from “Creation Of The Gods I: Kingdom Of Storms.”

According to Screen Daily, filming for “Deep Water” has already wrapped, with Arclight Films handling worldwide sales at EFM this week.

“Deep Water” unfolds the gripping story of an eclectic group of international passengers whose flight from Los Angeles to Shanghai takes a perilous turn when their plane is forced to make an emergency landing in shark-infested waters. To survive the ordeal, the terrified group must set aside their differences and band together as they face not only the sinking wreckage but also the relentless threat of hungry sharks.

Reflecting on the project, Harlin shared, “’Deep Water’ offered me an epic canvas to work on, which I’ve dreamed of since seeing the original ‘The Poseidon Adventure’ in a movie theatre as a kid in Finland.”

He continued, “My superb cast stood by my side valiantly through a rigorous shoot of barrel rolling planes, tidal waves of water, and ferocious sharks. This film is my tribute to all the action, imagination, emotion, and beauty that made movie making the first love of my life. I can’t wait to show the audiences around the world what an emotional rollercoaster we have created.”

“Deep Water” marks the inaugural project from a new production company launched by Gene Simmons (KISS) and Gary Hamilton, titled Simmons/Hamilton Prods.

Harlin’s impressive directorial resume includes classics like “A Nightmare on Elm Street 4: The Dream Master,” “Die Hard 2,” “Cliffhanger,” “The Long Kiss Goodnight,” and “Exorcist: The Beginning.”
