The DC Universe is about to get a lot more grotesque.

Warner Bros. and DC Studios have released the official trailer for Clayface, a new body horror movie that promises to bring one of Gotham’s most disturbing villains to the big screen.

Tom Rhys Harries stars as Matt Hagen, the man behind the iconic shape-shifting villain.

The film marks DC Studios’ first official venture into body horror, exploring the horrifying collapse of a man who loses his identity—and eventually his humanity.

The story follows Matt Hagen, who rises from a troubled childhood on the streets of Gotham to become a successful Hollywood actor. But his promising career is destroyed after a local crime boss leaves him horribly disfigured.

Abandoned by the people who once supported him, Matt turns to an experimental treatment that miraculously restores his appearance.

But the procedure comes with a horrifying price.

As the treatment begins to affect his grip on reality, Matt’s desperate attempt to reclaim his old life spirals into a violent quest for revenge.

The official synopsis reads:

“Matt Hagen’s meteoric rise from Gotham street kid to Hollywood leading man is tragically cut short when a local crime boss’s actions leave him horribly disfigured. Abandoned by his team and with nothing left, Matt seeks out a cutting edge treatment that miraculously returns him to his former self… but also unexpectedly affects his grip on reality, spiraling him down a destructive path of all-consuming revenge.”

James Watkins (The Woman in Black, Speak No Evil) directs the film from a screenplay by Mike Flanagan (The Haunting of Hill House, Doctor Sleep) and Hossein Amini (Drive).

DC Studios co-CEO Peter Safran previously described the project as “an incredible body horror film” that explores the origin of one of Batman’s most iconic villains.

Alongside Harries, the cast includes Naomi Ackie, David Dencik, Max Minghella, Eddie Marsan, Nancy Carroll, and Joshua James.

Clayface arrives in theaters October 23, 2026.
