Exciting news for horror fans as Chuck Russell, known for his work on Dream Warriors and The Blob, is set to direct a remake of “Witchboard.” The latest teaser for this highly anticipated return to horror was unveiled at SDCC’s Bold Voices of Horror panel.

From the trailer, it’s evident that the remake will offer a fresh and distinct experience compared to the original 1986 film.

The plot synopsis for the remake reveals an intriguing storyline: Emily (Madison Iseman) and her fiancé Christian (Aaron Dominguez) stumble upon a mysterious Wiccan artifact, a pendulum board, as they prepare to open a bistro in New Orleans’ French Quarter. As Emily becomes engrossed in the board’s divination powers and ability to summon spirits, a dark presence envelopes her. Desperate to aid his fiancé, Christian seeks guidance from occult expert Alexander Babiaste (Jamie Campbell Bower), who harbors secrets of his own, including ties to a modern-day coven of witches. The stakes escalate as every movement of the pendulum jeopardizes Emily’s very soul.

“Witchboard” is slated for a 2024 release, though the exact date remains undisclosed.

The talented cast includes Madison Iseman (I Know What You Did Last Summer), Aaron Dominguez (Only Murders in the Building), Antonia Desplat (Shantaram), and Charlie Tahan (Ozark). Notably, Jamie Campbell Bower (“Stranger Things”) stars and his ominous voiceover sets the tone in the teaser.

Chuck Russell, taking the helm as director, has also co-written the script alongside Greg McKay.

Commenting on the project, Russell praised Jamie Campbell Bower, describing him as an English actor with both the charisma and acting prowess to embody diverse character types. Russell expressed that Bower’s time to shine has arrived.

As anticipation builds, fans can expect more details to emerge. In the meantime, it’s best not to dabble with Ouija boards, as “Witchboard” promises to deliver spine-chilling thrills and terror. Stay tuned for updates as they unfold.
