Lionsgate and director Renny Harlin are gearing up for a fresh trilogy, starting with The Strangers: Chapter 1, set for a theatrical debut on May 17, 2024.

A just-released teaser image unveiled this evening has revealed the release date, teasing more details to come.

This first chapter is anticipated to serve as a reimagining of the original 2008 film, with subsequent installments, Chapter 2 and Chapter 3, branching into new narrative territories.

The cast includes Madelaine Petsch (“Riverdale”), Froy Gutierrez (Hocus Pocus 2), Rachel Shenton (The Silent Child), Ema Horvath (“Rings of Power”), and Gabe Basso (Hillbilly Elegy).

Drawing from the cult horror franchise that began in 2008, the story revolves around Petsch’s character embarking on a cross-country journey with her long-term partner (Gutierrez) to start afresh in the Pacific Northwest. A breakdown forces them to spend the night in a remote Airbnb in Venus, Oregon, where they become targets of terror at the hands of three masked assailants from dusk till dawn.

Director Renny Harlin, known for works like Cliffhanger and Deep Blue Sea, takes the helm with a screenplay by Alan R. Cohen and Alan Freedland (The Freak Brothers, Due Date). Lionsgate holds worldwide distribution rights.

The chilling saga originated with Bryan Bertino’s home invasion horror film in 2008, introducing three masked killers. The story continued a decade later with The Strangers: Prey at Night in 2018, shifting the murderous trio—Man in the Mask, Dollface, and Pinup Girl—to a trailer park setting from the initial remote house in the woods.
