‘Godmother’ – First Look at Jacksepticeye and Alanah Pearce’s New Horror Movie

Following in the footsteps of Markiplier and his independently produced horror movie Iron Lung, creators Jacksepticeye and Alanah Pearce are preparing to unleash their own horror project with Godmother.

Jacksepticeye, whose real name is Sean McLoughlin, and Pearce are producing the upcoming horror film, which was co-written by Pearce and directed by John Veron.

The film was made outside the traditional Hollywood studio system, with McLoughlin personally financing principal photography while Helmstreet Pictures handled post-production.

TheWrap’s first-look report reveals that Godmother follows Theo (Paige Evans), a woman in her late 20s who heads into the desert for a romantic getaway with her tech-bro boyfriend, played by Cameron Cuffe, and her sister, played by Riley Dandy.

Their vacation quickly takes a disturbing turn when they arrive at their rental property and are greeted by an older couple, played by Dee Wallace and Bruce Davison, who seem unusually eager to meet Theo.

From there, things descend into bloody chaos involving betrayals, homemade torture chambers, and increasingly unhinged elderly characters, as Theo fights to take control of her own life.

The film reportedly draws inspiration from classic horror movies including Rosemary’s Baby and The Return of the Living Dead.

Much like Iron Lung, Godmother represents a growing wave of independently produced horror projects coming directly from creators rather than traditional Hollywood studios.

Pearce explained that the filmmakers initially approached conventional studios and financiers but quickly discovered the compromises that would come with traditional funding.

“When we initially tried to get funding, we had numerous conversations with more traditional studios and financiers,” Pearce told TheWrap. “Most of them required us to attach A-list actors in order to mitigate financial risk.”

According to Pearce, one company even suggested casting J.K. Simmons in the role ultimately played by Bruce Davison.

“We could have pursued those options further, but in doing so, we would not have made Godmother,” Pearce continued. “We would have made some studio-mandated cash grab Frankenstein version of Godmother. What’s the point?”

For McLoughlin, the growing interest in creator-driven filmmaking could signal a major shift in how unconventional movies get made.

“There has been a lot more outreach from companies and executives. All eyes are on the creator space now to see if there’s more diamonds to be found,” McLoughlin said. “I’ve had a lot of projects floated my way recently for sure. It’s an exciting time and hopefully we get to see some incredible work coming as a result of it.”

There’s currently no release date for Godmother, but the film is expected to arrive soon.
