‘Love Is the Monster’ Trailer Unleashes a Deadly Goddess of Love
The goddess of love may not be as romantic as she seems in the new trailer for Love Is the Monster, the latest horror film from Sound of Violence director Alex Noyer.
Starring Madeline Zima (Doom Patrol, Twin Peaks) and Leonardo Nam (Werewolf by Night, Westworld), the film follows a troubled couple whose attempt to save their marriage turns into a waking nightmare during a remote Finnish retreat.
The film will be available to rent or own on Prime Video starting June 23.
The official synopsis reveals a chilling descent into pagan terror:
After their marriage is shaken by infidelity, Ana and Justin travel to an exclusive couples retreat in Finland during the surreal glow of the midnight sun. There, they join other international couples under the guidance of Tiina, a shamanic healer whose teachings are inspired by Lempo, an ancient Finnish goddess of love and fertility.
At first, Ana is skeptical of the retreat’s strange rituals and unsettling atmosphere. But as the experience deepens, the couple’s emotional fractures are pushed to the surface—and something far more dangerous begins to take hold.
What starts as relationship therapy quickly spirals into a fight for survival as the influence of the goddess and the ritual practices turn deadly. As tensions between couples erupt, Ana begins to realize she may have a much darker role in Tiina’s plan than she ever imagined.
Alongside Zima and Nam, the film stars Kimberly Sue-Murray (The Boys), Moe Jeudy-Lamour (Ted Lasso), Kristina Tonteri-Young (Warrior Nun), Milla Puolakanaho (Attack on Helsinki), and Sheila McCarthy (Women Talking).
Love Is the Monster is co-written by Alex Noyer with Hannu Aukia and Blair Bathory, based on a story developed with Aukia. Laurence Gendron also produces alongside Noyer and Aukia.
Noyer notes that the film’s setting is intentionally tied to Finnish midsummer:
“Releasing Love Is the Monster during Finnish midsummer couldn’t be more fitting, as it’s when our story unfolds. While a real trip to Finland is far less eventful, our devious goddess Lempo is ready to welcome audiences.”
