‘Alien: Earth’ Creator Noah Hawley Set to Remake Argentine Horror Hit ‘Terrified’
Noah Hawley is diving headfirst into horror once again—this time with a remake of the Argentine shocker ‘Terrified‘.
Best known for his Emmy-winning work on Fargo and the upcoming series Alien: Earth, Hawley is set to direct the English-language reimagining, according to reports. He’ll also produce the film through his 26 Keys banner, with Warner Bros. backing the project.
Importantly, the remake isn’t straying far from its roots. Demián Rugna—the writer-director behind the 2017 original (titled Aterrados in Spanish) and When Evil Lurks—is developing the new version alongside Hawley.
For those unfamiliar, Terrified follows a police officer teaming up with paranormal investigators to unravel a string of deeply disturbing supernatural events plaguing a single neighborhood in Buenos Aires. What unfolds is less a mystery and more an escalating nightmare.
The film built a strong cult following after its U.S. release via Shudder, thanks in large part to its relentless pacing and barrage of unforgettable scares. As one reviewer famously put it, most horror films are lucky to land one iconic moment—Terrified delivers several, back-to-back, like a haunted attraction that refuses to let you catch your breath.
This isn’t the first time Hollywood has attempted to bring Terrified to English-speaking audiences. Back in 2018, an adaptation was in the works at Fox Searchlight, with Rugna attached to direct and Guillermo del Toro producing, though that version ultimately never materialized.
Now, with Hawley at the helm, the project has new life—and serious pedigree behind it.
As for Hawley, his schedule isn’t exactly slowing down. He’s currently preparing to head into production on the second season of Alien: Earth, but it looks like he’ll be making room for something much, much darker.
