Karyn Kusama Set to Direct ‘Life Is Strange’ Film Adaptation
Karyn Kusama (Jennifer’s Body, The Invitation) is stepping into the world of time-bending mystery, signing on to direct the first two episodes of Life Is Strange, Prime Video’s upcoming adaptation of the hit video game franchise, per Variety.
Maisy Stella (My Old Ass) and newcomer Tatum Grace Hopkins are set to lead the series, with Hopkins playing Max, a photography student who discovers she has the ability to rewind time after saving her estranged best friend Chloe (Stella).
As Max attempts to understand — and control — her powers, the two reconnect while digging into the disappearance of a fellow student. What they uncover reveals a far more sinister side of their town, pushing them toward a devastating life-or-death decision with lasting consequences.
Charlie Covell (The End of the F**ing World*) serves as writer, showrunner, and executive producer.
The series is backed by Square Enix, Story Kitchen, and LuckyChap, with Amazon MGM Studios producing. Executive producers include Dmitri M. Johnson, Michael Lawrence Goldberg, and Timothy I. Stevenson.
Originally developed by Don’t Nod Entertainment and later continued by Deck Nine, Life Is Strange debuted in 2015 and has since drawn more than 20 million players worldwide.
The franchise has expanded with multiple entries, including Before the Storm, Life Is Strange 2, and True Colors, with the latest installment, Life Is Strange: Reunion, arriving March 26 on Xbox Series X|S and PC.
Kusama’s television credits include Yellowjackets, The Terror, and Dead Ringers, further cementing her reputation for bringing tension and psychological edge to the screen—something that should pair perfectly with the eerie, emotional core of Life Is Strange.
