Scarlett Johansson and Diane Lane Star in Mike Flanagan’s New Exorcist Series
Oscar nominee Diane Lane (Unfaithful) has officially joined Scarlett Johansson and Jacobi Jupe (Hamnet) in Mike Flanagan’s all-new take on The Exorcist, set to hit theaters March 12, 2027, via Universal.
Flanagan, the visionary behind The Haunting of Hill House, Midnight Mass, and Doctor Sleep, is writing and directing the original story set in The Exorcist universe. While plot details are being kept under wraps, Flanagan confirms the film is neither a remake of the 1974 classic nor a sequel to 2023’s The Exorcist: Believer.
The film is produced through Flanagan’s Red Room Pictures in collaboration with Jason Blum (Blumhouse-Atomic Monster) and David Robinson (Morgan Creek Entertainment). Executive producers include Red Room’s Alexandra Magistro and Blumhouse’s Ryan Turek.
“This is an opportunity to do something that I believe has never been done within the franchise — something that honors what came before it but isn’t built on nostalgia,” Flanagan said. “I really just saw an opportunity to make the scariest movie I’ve ever made. I know expectations are high. No one’s more intimidated than I am.”
Production for The Exorcist is set to begin in New York City this spring, and horror fans can expect a fresh, terrifying entry into one of cinema’s most iconic franchises.
