‘The Conjuring: First Communion’ Prequel Summons a 2027 Release
While The Conjuring: Last Rites may have closed the chapter on Ed and Lorraine Warren — and sent off Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga — the doors to the Conjuring Universe remain wide open.
Warner Bros. has officially set a release date for the upcoming prequel The Conjuring: First Communion, summoning the film into theaters on September 10, 2027, just in time to haunt the Halloween season.
Story details are being kept tightly sealed, but the prequel will be directed by Rodrigue Huart from a script by Richard Naing and Ian Goldberg. While nothing has been confirmed, it’s unlikely Wilson and Farmiga will reprise their iconic roles, as the project is expected to explore an earlier chapter in the franchise’s mythology. According to Deadline, Warner Bros. had been quietly holding onto the September 2027 date for some time.
Huart’s background includes short films such as Transylvanie, Trigger, and Reel, along with music videos for GIMS and Yuzmv. He most recently helmed the television series Le monde magique de Jérôme Commandeur.
The Conjuring Universe has grown into a massive horror empire, currently spanning nine films: The Conjuring, Annabelle, The Conjuring 2, Annabelle: Creation, The Nun, Annabelle Comes Home, The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It, The Nun II, and 2025’s The Conjuring: Last Rites. The saga has proven far from finished.
Producer Peter Safran has previously teased that there’s still plenty of evil left to explore. “There’s so much more to it that we haven’t dug into,” Safran said. “There are really exciting ways to go with both film and television. People have been on this journey with us for over a decade now — and they want more.”
Adding fuel to the fire, a Conjuring Universe television series is also currently in development, ensuring the hauntings are far from over.
