Lionsgate Sets 2026 Production for The Housemaid’s Secret Sequel

The box office numbers are in, and The Housemaid isn’t done cleaning up just yet.

After pulling in over $75 million domestically in its first 17 days and $133 million worldwide—with international markets still rolling out through January—the twist-filled thriller has officially secured a sequel. Lionsgate has confirmed that The Housemaid’s Secret is moving forward, with production currently targeted for 2026.

The sequel will adapt the second novel in Freida McFadden’s best-selling trilogy, continuing the story that turned the original film into a surprise hit. Rebecca Sonnenshine, who penned the screenplay for The Housemaid, is set to return to adapt the follow-up, while McFadden will serve as an executive producer.

The project is being developed with the intention of bringing back director Paul Feig, along with stars Sydney Sweeney and Michele Morrone, though official confirmations are still pending.

“It’s clear from both the global box office and the outpouring on social media that audiences have responded strongly—and loudly—to the totally unique and truly theatrical experience of The Housemaid,” said Adam Fogelson, Chair of the Lionsgate Motion Picture Group. “From the beginning, we believed in these stories, and we’re beyond excited to bring the next chapter of Millie’s journey to the screen.”

Producer Todd Lieberman of Hidden Pictures echoed the sentiment, praising the film’s reception and the audience connection it has sparked worldwide.

Director Paul Feig also weighed in, noting his excitement to continue Millie’s story and return to McFadden’s world alongside Sonnenshine and Lionsgate.

Released earlier this year, The Housemaid follows Millie, a woman desperate to outrun her past who accepts a live-in housemaid job for a wealthy family—only to discover that what looks like a fresh start is actually a seductive and dangerous game of secrets, power, and manipulation.

In our review, we called the film “a crowd-pleaser through and through,” praising its bold twists, escalating stakes, and operatic sense of chaos—exactly the kind of insanity that demands a sequel.

While Lionsgate is keeping plot details for The Housemaid’s Secret under wraps, one thing is certain: Millie’s deadly journey is far from over, and we’re more than ready to see where it goes next.
