Fresh off her Golden Globe nomination for Weapons, Amy Madigan has joined the cast of Apple Original Films’ psychological thriller Sponsor, Deadline reports.

The film is directed by James Ponsoldt (Shrinking) and also stars Jason Segel and John C. Reilly.

Sponsor follows Peter (Segel), whose night of partying behind the wheel ends in a horrific accident. Faced with prison or a recovery program, Peter reluctantly attends his first meeting in search of a sponsor — and meets the charismatic yet enigmatic Jerry (Reilly), convinced he might be the answer to Peter’s problems.

The screenplay was co-written by Jason Segel and James Ponsoldt, with Michael Bay, Brad Fuller, and Alex Ginno producing under their Platinum Dunes label.

Madigan, known for her chilling turn as Aunt Gladys in Weapons, is no stranger to horror and suspense, with credits including Field of Dreams, Twice in a Lifetime (Oscar-nominated), and George A. Romero’s Stephen King adaptation The Dark Half.
