Horror heavyweights Sam Raimi and Jordan Peele are joining forces for the first time as producers on Portrait of God, a feature adaptation of Dylan Clark’s viral short film.

Clark’s original 7-minute short, uploaded to YouTube three years ago, has racked up over 8.6 million views, and now Universal has acquired the rights for a full-length expansion. Written by Clark and Joe Russo (The Inheritance), the feature promises to delve deeper into the eerie world introduced in the short.

The original short centers on a religious young woman preparing a presentation on a mysterious painting called Portrait of God. The artwork appears blank to some, yet others see a divine face lurking within the darkness. As the woman gazes into the void, she soon discovers that something is staring back… a chilling concept that left millions of viewers unsettled.

The feature will be produced by Jordan Peele and Win Rosenfeld through Monkeypaw Productions’ first-look deal with Universal, alongside Sam Raimi and Romel Adam via Ghost House Pictures.

Before this supernatural collaboration arrives, Raimi will return to horror fans’ screens with Send Help, hitting theaters this January.
