Filming Begins on Robert Eggers’ Medieval Werewolf Horror ‘Werwulf’

Production has officially begun on Werwulf, the next chilling vision from The Witch and Nosferatu director Robert Eggers. According to ScreenDaily, filming is underway in the UK, with production based at Sky Studios Elstree and location shooting taking place across the eerie moors of Dartmoor, Devon.

Starring Willem Dafoe, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, and Lily-Rose Depp, Werwulf transports audiences to the 13th century, where superstition, isolation, and blood-soaked folklore collide. The story follows a mysterious creature stalking a fog-shrouded countryside, as whispered legends become a waking nightmare for terrified villagers.

Eggers co-wrote the screenplay with Sjón, the Icelandic poet and novelist who previously collaborated with him on The Northman. The film is being produced by Chris Columbus, who also produced Nosferatu.

Eggers himself has described Werwulf as “the darkest thing I’ve ever written — by far,” promising an uncompromising descent into medieval horror.

Werwulf will unleash its terror in theaters on Christmas Day 2026, courtesy of Focus Features.
