M. Night Shyamalan Summons a Supernatural Series with Mattel’s ‘Magic 8 Ball’
M. Night Shyamalan is shaking things up — literally. The master of the twist is teaming with American Horror Story’s Brad Falchuk to turn Mattel’s iconic Magic 8 Ball into a dark, supernatural TV series.
Shyamalan announced the project on Instagram, writing, “Been working on this for a couple years. Who’s in?”
The series reimagines the classic toy as the center of a high-concept, character-driven nightmare — a psychological thriller that toys with fate, obsession, and the human need to know what’s coming next. Shyamalan and Falchuk will both serve as co-creators and showrunners, blending their signature styles of slow-burn dread and psychological chaos.
Born in the 1950s, the Magic 8 Ball was once a harmless novelty — ask a question, shake, and get your answer. But under Shyamalan’s direction, that innocent ritual could easily turn into something far more sinister.
According to Mattel Studios, over a million Magic 8 Balls are still sold each year — proof that people never stopped seeking answers from the void. Now, Shyamalan’s ready to ask what happens when the void finally answers back.
Fate, fear, and the unknown — Magic 8 Ball might just be Shyamalan’s creepiest question yet.
