Sandberg Teases New ‘Amityville’ & Bloody ‘Lights Out’ Sequel
While hitting the stage at Boston’s Midnight Fest over the weekend, David F. Sandberg—the twisted mind behind Lights Out and Annabelle: Creation—gave horror fans a peek into the darkness he’s about to unleash.
Sandberg confirmed he’s diving back into classic supernatural horror with his upcoming Amityville Horror reimagining, saying:
“I’m looking forward to doing a supernatural, classic horror again… Until Dawn was more gore and craziness. I’m really looking forward to more of that suspenseful, supernatural horror.”
The new Amityville film comes from writers Ian Goldberg & Richard Naing (The Autopsy of Jane Doe, The Conjuring: Last Rites) and is in the works at Amazon MGM Studios.
But that’s not all. Sandberg also dropped a blood-tinged tease:
“There’s a chance there could be a [Lights Out] sequel. We’ll see.”
He added that the original sequel idea—set shortly after the 2016 film—might get scrapped for something set a decade later, since the cast has aged.
“I don’t know how much I should say… it could still happen!”
Lights Out marked Sandberg’s breakout feature, expanding his viral short into a nerve-shredding supernatural ride scripted by Eric Heisserer (Arrival, Bird Box).
Looking beyond horror, Sandberg revealed he’s got his eye on sci-fi horror, citing Event Horizon as inspiration:
“I’d love to do grounded sci-fi… not necessarily space battles. Something more like Event Horizon… RoboCop would be cool too.”
No release dates yet, but horror fans should keep their eyes peeled—Sandberg’s just getting started.
