The nightmare isn’t over. Director Scott Derrickson is resurrecting The Grabber this October in Black Phone 2, and Universal unleashed the official trailer.

The sequel has been slapped with a hard R-rating for strong violence, gore, teen drug use, and language — exactly the kind of sinister energy fans were hoping for.

Arriving in theaters on October 17 from Blumhouse and Universal, Black Phone 2 teases a twisted Elm Street–style slasher. Ethan Hawke’s masked monster is back, only this time he’s haunting a fresh set of victims from beyond the grave.

What We Know So Far:

Four years after 13-year-old Finn killed his captor and escaped, the evil refuses to stay buried. The Grabber is dead… but the black phone is ringing again.

  • Ethan Hawke returns to his most chilling role, now as a vengeful specter targeting Finn (Mason Thames) through his younger sister, Gwen (Madeleine McGraw).

  • At 17, Finn is still haunted by his captivity, while 15-year-old Gwen begins receiving disturbing dream-calls from the black phone. She sees visions of three boys being hunted at a remote winter camp called Alpine Lake.

  • Determined to end the nightmare, Gwen convinces Finn to investigate during a brutal snowstorm — leading them to a horrifying truth that links The Grabber to their own family history.

  • Together, the siblings face a killer who has only grown stronger in death.

Black Phone 2 brings back Scott Derrickson behind the camera, with a script co-written alongside C. Robert Cargill. Author Joe Hill, whose short story inspired the original, returns as executive producer.
