Clay McLeod Chapman’s chilling novel Ghost Eaters is getting the big-screen treatment. As reported by The Hollywood Reporter, filmmaker Maggie Levin (My Valentine) will write and direct the upcoming adaptation, with horror heavyweight Scott Derrickson (The Black Phone 2) set to produce.

The film is being developed by Screen Gems, with Derrickson, C. Robert Cargill, and Vince Cheng producing under their Crooked Highway banner.

Ghost Eaters follows Erin, a young woman struggling to move on from her toxic relationship with her charismatic but self-destructive ex-boyfriend, Silas. When Silas dies of an overdose shortly after leaving rehab, Erin is left reeling. But when she learns of a mysterious new drug called Ghost—one that claims to let users see the dead—she’s tempted by the chance to say goodbye.

Driven by grief and desperation, Erin agrees to a pill-fueled séance. But the drug comes with terrifying consequences. Once you open the door to the other side, there’s no turning back.

Hailed as one of Vulture’s Best Horror Novels of 2022, Ghost Eaters blends emotional depth with spine-tingling supernatural horror, promising a gripping adaptation for genre fans.
