Don’t make her drink alone — again. Blumhouse has officially confirmed that Ma 2 is in development, with Octavia Spencer set to reprise her chilling role as the unhinged party host.

The announcement was made during Blumhouse’s The Business of Fear event, where the studio explored the evolving landscape of horror and its subgenres.

“Ma has become a social phenomenon since its 2019 release, with fans embracing Octavia’s unforgettable performance,” said Blumhouse founder and CEO Jason Blum. “Ma likes to say, ‘Don’t make me drink alone,’ so we’re thrilled she’s coming back for a second round.”

The original film followed a group of teens who accept a stranger’s offer to party in her basement, only to discover their host has sinister motives. Spencer’s twisted turn as Ma helped push the film to over $60 million at the global box office.

While the return of Spencer is confirmed, it’s still unknown whether director Tate Taylor or screenwriter Scotty Landes will be involved in the sequel.

Blumhouse also revealed that “revenge” is one of 24 thriving horror subgenres identified in a recent study—making Ma 2 a natural continuation in their expanding horror slate.
