Fans of psychological horror are in for a treat as Vertical Reach’s throwback title, ‘The Tartarus Key,’ is set to receive a physical release for both the PlayStation and Nintendo Switch. Originally launched digitally for PC and consoles in May, the game will now be available in limited quantities in physical format starting on October 12, thanks to Super Rare Games.

Don’t underestimate the term ‘limited quantity,’ as only 4,000 copies for the Nintendo Switch and a mere 1,000 copies for the PlayStation 4 will be produced. The sale for these physical editions is scheduled to commence at 6 pm BST (10 am PDT/1 pm EDT).

Purchasers of the physical release will also be treated to some enticing bonuses. For ‘The Tartarus Key’ on the Nintendo Switch, the package includes the game on a physical cartridge, a full-color manual, an exclusive sticker, and a set of trading cards. Meanwhile, the PlayStation 4 version offers the game on a disc, a full-color manual, interior artwork, an exclusive sticker, and a slipcover.

Drawing inspiration from the classics of the psychological horror genre, ‘The Tartarus Key’ immerses players in a first-person narrative thriller with the central character being Alex. Alex’s recollection begins with her being alone in her apartment, but suddenly, she finds herself awakened in a mysterious mansion, with a stranger’s voice communicating through a walkie-talkie and surveillance cameras tracking her every move. As Alex realizes she’s not the only one ensnared in this nightmarish scenario, she embarks on a quest to unveil the identity of the lurking entity in the shadows.

For those who prefer digital gaming, ‘The Tartarus Key’ is also available on the Xbox Series, Xbox One, and PC through Steam, alongside its physical PlayStation and Nintendo Switch releases.
