Fans of The Last of Us got a big surprise via the HBO press conference this morning. CEO Casey Bloys extensively discussed the project today, elaborating on how the WAG and SAG-AFTRA strikes disrupted the show’s production.

The second season of the show will follow the game plot outline of The Last of Us: Part 2. Game creator Neil Druckmann will work in tandem with Craig Mazin to produce the new season of the show. These two showrunners sat down with Entertainment Weekly and had the following to say about the disruption:

“We’ve outlined all of Season 2 and we’re ready to go as soon as the strike ends,” Druckmann stated in his interview with Entertainment Weekly.

“We were able to map out all of Season 2,” added Mazin. “And I also wrote and submitted the script for the first episode and sent it in [to HBO] around 10:30 or 10:40 pm right before the midnight the [WGA] strike began. I think it’s becoming essentially a near certainty that we won’t be able to start [filming] when we were hoping to start, which is upsetting. We are all raring to go.”

Production for Season 2 of The Last of Us is set to commence in early 2024, but there have been no updates regarding its release date. That is all the information we have for you at this time. Make sure to check back here for updates and all of your horror news.
