Renowned director Ben Wheatley, known for his work on films like “Kill List,” “Free Fire,” and “High-Rise,” first announced the creation of the Brexit-themed zombie series, “Generation Z,” for UK’s Channel 4 back in 2019. Channel 4 has now offered a tantalizing first look at the forthcoming six-part series, including a glimpse of its talented cast.

Channel 4 characterizes “Generation Z” as a “coming-of-age parable for our very strange times,” spiced up with a generous helping of outlandish gore. Below, you can get a sneak peek at the first look images.

The series unfolds in a small British town where tensions reach a breaking point when a mysterious military convoy crashes near the Sunnywise Retirement Home. The vehicles were transporting a toxic substance, which, due to the accident, contaminates the local environment and infects the elderly residents of the retirement community. The symptoms of this infection quickly emerge, and they’re hungry for raw flesh. These elderly citizens are not just old; they’re angry and on a flesh-eating rampage. As the military races to contain the outbreak and maintain secrecy, a group of regular teenagers unexpectedly find themselves in the midst of a battle against these flesh-craving baby boomers.

In more specific terms, a chemical leak outside a care home sparks an apocalypse led by elderly pensioners with a voracious appetite for human flesh. With the toxic substance affecting the elderly, the generational gap is about to get wider and gorier.

Currently in production and being filmed in Wales, “Generation Z” boasts an impressive cast, including Robert Lindsay (“Wimbledon”), Sue Johnston (“Downton Abbey”), Paul Bentall (“The World’s End”), T’Nia Miller (“The Haunting of Bly Manor”), Anita Dobson (“The Worst Witch”), Lewis Gribben, Jay Lycurgo, Buket Komur, Viola Prettejohn, and Johnny Vegas.

Ben Wheatley both writes and directs the series, with Alex Kazamia as the producer. Executive producers include Wheatley, Mark Pybus, George Faber, and Beth Willis. Keep an eye out for more updates on this intriguing project as they become available.
