The forest is calling.

LAIKA, the stop-motion animation studio behind Coraline and ParaNorman, is returning with Wildwood, a sprawling fantasy adventure that looks set to take audiences deep into a world of magic, monsters, and dangerous secrets.

A new official poster has arrived ahead of the film’s theatrical release on October 23 through Fathom Entertainment.

Wildwood is directed by Travis Knight (Kubo and the Two Strings, Masters of the Universe) from a screenplay by Chris Butler (ParaNorman, Masters of the Universe). The film is based on the 2011 children’s novel by The Decemberists frontman Colin Meloy, illustrated by his wife, Carson Ellis.

The story follows Prue McKeel, a headstrong teenager whose baby brother is abducted by a murder of crows.

Her search leads her beyond Portland, Oregon, and into the Impassable Wilderness—an enchanted forest hidden just beyond the familiar world.

Joined by her loyal but hapless classmate Curtis Mehlberg, Prue must navigate a strange and dangerous realm filled with talking animals, bandits, and powerful figures consumed by grief and ambition.

But as the pair become caught in a conflict threatening the very balance of the forest, Prue is forced to discover a strength she never knew she possessed.

To save her brother and protect Wildwood’s fragile future, she may have to risk everything.

The film features an impressive voice cast including Carey Mulligan, Peyton Elizabeth Lee, Jacob Tremblay, Richard E. Grant, Awkwafina, Amandla Stenberg, Tom Waits, Charlie Day, Blythe Danner, Arthur Knight, Maya Erskine, Jake Johnson, Tantoo Cardinal, Rob Delaney, Jemaine Clement, Marc Evan Jackson, Len Cariou, Ólafur Darri Ólafsson, Angela Bassett, and Mahershala Ali.

Described as “a sweeping adventure about love, sacrifice, and the magic that reveals itself when we dare to look beyond the familiar,” Wildwood is produced by Travis Knight and Sam Wilson.

From the studio that brought us Coraline, Wildwood promises a strange and visually stunning journey into a world where the forest is alive—and venturing too far from home could be dangerous.
