Following the trend of iconic characters receiving sinister adaptations, Hans Christian Andersen’s “The Little Mermaid” is the latest to undergo a chilling transformation.

Originally penned in 1837, the classic tale of “The Little Mermaid” now resides in the public domain, paving the way for MSR Media International to unveil their own horror rendition of the story this year.

Distributed by Grindstone Entertainment Group, “The Little Mermaid” has recently garnered an “R” rating for “Language, some violence, and brief nudity.”

Directed by Leigh Scott, the film introduces audiences to Dr. Eric Prince, an archaeologist who stumbles upon a groundbreaking discovery on a secluded Caribbean island—an indication of an ancient, advanced prehistoric civilization. Amidst his excavation, he encounters the enigmatic and captivating Aurora Bey, with whom he swiftly falls in love. However, her arrival coincides with a series of mermaid sightings and mysterious vanishings.

As Dr. Eric’s friend and mentor, Dr. Ashley, arrives on the island, unsettling truths about Aurora’s identity and the lurking malevolence within the excavation site begin to surface. Will Eric heed Ashley’s warnings, or will he succumb to the allure of love and the siren’s call, risking the world’s descent into darkness?

Starring Lydia Helen, Mike Markoff, and Jeff Denton, “The Little Mermaid” offers a twisted take on the beloved fairy tale.

The trailer for this eerie adaptation is now available for viewing on MSR Media International’s website, offering a glimpse into the sinister depths of “The Little Mermaid’s” underwater world.
