Yorgos Lanthimos, the renowned filmmaker behind “The Killing of a Sacred Deer” and “Dogtooth,” is returning with his latest project titled “Poor Things,” a tale reminiscent of Frankenstein, adapted from Alistair Gray’s 1992 novel.

The film features a stellar cast, with Emma Stone and Willem Dafoe taking the lead roles in “Poor Things.” Originally slated for a theatrical release on September 8, 2023, the film’s premiere date has been pushed back.

Audiences can now anticipate the release of “Poor Things” in theaters on December 8, 2023. Alongside Stone and Dafoe, the movie also stars Ramy Youssef, Jerrod Carmichael, Christopher Abbott, and Mark Ruffalo.

The story revolves around Bella Baxter (played by Emma Stone), a young woman who undergoes a fantastical transformation, brought back to life by the brilliant and unconventional scientist, Dr. Godwin Baxter (Willem Dafoe). Protected by Baxter, Bella embraces her newfound existence with curiosity and eagerness to learn. As she embarks on a whirlwind adventure across continents, she forms a bond with the slick and debauched lawyer, Duncan Wedderburn (Mark Ruffalo).

Set in a time free from the limitations of societal norms, Bella grows resolute in her pursuit of equality and liberation, unburdened by the prejudices of her era.

“Poor Things” has been rated “R” for its intense content, including strong and pervasive sexual elements, graphic nudity, disturbing scenes, gore, and language.

Emma Stone previously collaborated with Yorgos Lanthimos in the ruthless period comedy, “The Favourite,” reuniting with the director and screenwriter Tony McNamara (“The Great,” Cruella”) for this latest project.
