‘The Housemaid 2’ Brings Sydney Sweeney and Kirsten Dunst Back for a Dark Return — Set for December 2027
After pulling in nearly $400 million worldwide, The Housemaid is getting a follow-up — and this time, the secrets are even harder to escape.
Lionsgate has officially set The Housemaid’s Secret for a theatrical release on December 17, 2027, placing it head-to-head with massive titles like Avengers: Secret Wars and The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum. But if the first film proved anything, it’s that audiences have an appetite for twisted domestic thrillers.
Director Paul Feig returns, once again working from a script by Rebecca Sonnenshine, adapting the bestselling novel by Freida McFadden.
Sydney Sweeney reprises her role as Millie, joined again by Kirsten Dunst and Michele Morrone.
This time, Millie takes on a new job — one that comes with a chilling condition: she’s never allowed to see her employer. But behind a locked door lies something far more disturbing than secrecy… something that threatens to expose truths darker than anything Millie has tried to bury.
Production is set to begin later this year, with Feig producing alongside Laura Fischer under Pretty Dangerous Pictures, as well as Todd Lieberman for Hidden Pictures. Sweeney also produces through Fifty-Fifty Films, with Carly Elter and Alex Young serving as executive producers.
Meanwhile, The Housemaid continues to gain momentum, arriving on Starz this April after its successful digital and physical release.
With multiple books in Freida McFadden’s series already optioned, The Housemaid’s Secret may only be the next chapter in a much larger story.
And if the first film thrived on tension, manipulation, and buried trauma… the sequel looks ready to push those elements even further into something far more dangerous.
