David Gordon Green’s “The Exorcist: Believer” has crossed the $100 million mark at the global box office, and now, it’s making its way to digital platforms, just in time for Halloween.

“The Exorcist: Believer” is set to be exclusively available for rental or purchase on various digital platforms starting tomorrow, October 24, 2023, courtesy of Universal Pictures Home Entertainment.

This new installment in the legendary horror franchise arrives five decades after the release of the iconic and terrifying original film in 1973. “The Exorcist: Believer” picks up where the groundbreaking 1973 film left off.

The story revolves around Victor (Leslie Odom Jr.), who, following his wife’s passing, has been raising his daughter, Angela (Lidya Jewett), on his own. However, when Angela and her friend (Olivia O’Neill) reappear after a three-day disappearance with no recollection of what occurred, they start exhibiting disturbing and eerie behaviors. Victor’s only hope is to seek out Chris MacNeil (Ellen Burstyn), the sole person who has faced something similar, drawing from her own haunting experience with her daughter Regan. Her knowledge may hold the key to confronting the ultimate evil that has resurfaced.

The script for “Believer” was penned by Peter Sattler (known for “Broken Diamonds”) and David Gordon Green, building on a story developed by Green, Scott Teems (of “Halloween Kills” fame), and Danny McBride (from “Halloween”).

The “Exorcist” franchise has been relatively dormant on the big screen, with the last release being “Dominion: Prequel to The Exorcist” in 2005, which served as an alternate version of the prior year’s “Exorcist: The Beginning.” These films followed in the wake of “The Exorcist II: The Heretic” in 1977 and “The Exorcist III” in 1990.

More recently, “The Exorcist” found new life as a short-lived television series on Fox, a surprisingly excellent adaptation set in the same universe as the original cinematic classic.
