Filmmaker Kiah Roache-Turner is set to terrify audiences with the upcoming release of “Sting,” a horror movie infested with spiders and featuring practical effects, including a monstrous eight-legged creature. As the film gears up for its Spring release, a set of new images has been unveiled, offering a glimpse into the characters entangled with the arachnid menace.

Scheduled to hit theaters on April 12, 2024, courtesy of Well Go USA, the spider thriller boasts a cast including Ryan Corr, Alyla Browne, Penelope Mitchell, Robyn Nevin, Noni Hazlehurst, and Jermaine Fowler.

The released images introduce the characters, with a notable appearance by Jermaine Fowler in what seems to be the role of an exterminator.

In “Sting,” the storyline unfolds on a cold, stormy night in New York City when a mysterious object crashes through the window of a dilapidated apartment building. The object turns out to be an egg, from which a peculiar spider emerges. The discovery is made by Charlotte, a rebellious 12-year-old girl with a passion for comic books. Despite her stepfather Ethan’s efforts to connect through their comic book creation “Fang Girl,” Charlotte feels isolated. With her family preoccupied with a new baby, Charlotte forms a bond with the spider, keeping it as a secret pet and naming it Sting.

As Charlotte’s fascination grows, so does Sting’s size. The creature’s insatiable appetite for blood leads to the disappearance of neighbors’ pets and eventually the neighbors themselves. Charlotte and her family, along with other eccentric building residents, realize they are trapped and hunted by a ravenous, supersized arachnid. Charlotte becomes the key to stopping the terror.

“Sting” is produced by Jamie Hilton and Michael Pontin through See Pictures, along with Chris Brown from Pictures in Paradise. Additional financing comes from Create NSW, Cumulous VFX, and Spectrum Entertainment. The physical effects for the film are crafted by Weta Workshop, a five-time Academy Award® winner led by Creative Director Richard Taylor.

Roache-Turner’s previous works include the 2015 film “Wyrmwood: Road of the Dead,” premiered at Fantastic Fest in Austin. His subsequent feature, “Nekrotronic,” starring Monica Bellucci, premiered at the 2018 Toronto International Film Festival. “Wyrmwood: Apocalypse” went on to win the Audience Award at the 2021 Sydney Film Festival.
