Iconic label Anchor Bay Entertainment, which is making a comeback in 2024 under the guidance of founders Thomas Zambeck and Brian Katz, has announced the acquisition of North American rights to the horror/comedy Crust. Directed by Sean Whalen (known for The People Under The Stairs) and co-written with Jim Wald, Crust features a stellar cast including Whalen himself, Daniel Roebuck (from Rob Zombie’s The Munsters), Rebekah Kennedy (Two Witches), Felissa Rose (Sleepaway Camp), and Ricky Dean Logan (Back to the Future II), alongside Shawntay Dalon (“Detroiters”) and Alan Ruck (“Succession”).
Zambeck expressed his excitement about collaborating with Whalen, praising the film’s witty and clever tone. Whalen, on the other hand, expressed his delight in finding a home for his directorial debut with Anchor Bay Entertainment, highlighting their immediate understanding of his vision.
In Crust, viewers follow Vegas Winters, a washed-up child actor who now owns and lives in a dilapidated laundromat, finding solace in lost socks that he uses to absorb his emotions. One night, his tears give life to a loving sock monster named Crust, who becomes both protector and friend. As Vegas navigates his chaotic life, including a new girlfriend, a nosy paranormal investigator, and pressure to join a sitcom reboot, Crust takes matters into its own hands, eliminating Vegas’s enemies with deadly consequences.
Zambeck and Katz are currently in Berlin acquiring additional titles for Anchor Bay Entertainment, setting the stage for the label’s promising return.
