Director John Woo‘s upcoming film Silent Night has been rated R for strong bloody violence, drug use, and some language. The film stars Joel Kinnaman, Scott Mescudi, Harold Torres, and Catalina Sandino Moreno.

Silent Night is a revenge thriller that follows a grieving father who enacts his revenge against a ruthless gang on Christmas Eve. The film is notable for being dialogue-free, with the story being told through visuals and music.

Woo told Vulture that the film’s lack of dialogue was a deliberate choice. “I wanted to use visuals to tell the story, to tell how the character feels,” he said. “We are using music instead of language. And the movie is all about sight and sound.”

The film’s R rating is likely due to the graphic violence depicted. The MPA’s description of the violence includes “bloody” and “gruesome” imagery. The film also features drug use and some profanity.

Silent Night is currently in post-production and does not yet have a release date.
