One of the most pressing questions in the world of horror releases this year centers around the whereabouts of the ‘Salem’s Lot‘ remake. As reported by Variety, it appears that the Stephen King adaptation directed by Gary Dauberman might be making its way to Max, the streaming platform from Warner Bros. Discovery.

Originally scheduled for a theatrical release on September 9, 2022, this new adaptation of Stephen King’s work was then rescheduled for April 21, 2023, only to be removed entirely from the theatrical release calendar. As it stands, ‘Salem’s Lot’ still lacks a confirmed release date.

While a spokesperson from Warner Bros. stated, “No decision has been made about the film’s future distribution plans,” Variety notes that “the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike has created a growing need for Max content.” Given the prolonged delay the adaptation has faced, ‘Salem’s Lot’ appears to be a prime candidate for this streaming platform.

It’s possible that, with vocal support from fans, ‘Salem’s Lot’ could still make its way to theaters, much like the recent release of ‘Evil Dead Rise.’ Originally intended for streaming on Max (formerly HBO Max), ‘Evil Dead Rise’ eventually landed in theaters due to the enthusiasm of fans and support from the franchise’s creators.

The 2023 version of ‘Salem’s Lot is set in the year 1975, aligning with the release of Stephen King’s original novel.

In this iteration of ‘Salem’s Lot, we follow author Ben Mears, haunted by a childhood incident, as he returns to his hometown of Jerusalem’s Lot in search of inspiration for his next book. To his horror, he discovers that the town is under siege by a bloodthirsty vampire and his devoted servant.

The cast includes Lewis Pullman, Makenzie Leigh, Alfre Woodard, Bill Camp, John Benjamin Hickey, Nicholas Crovetti, Jordan Preston Carter, William Sadler, Spencer Treat Clark, Cade Woodward, Debra Christofferson, and Pilou Asbaek.

Gary Dauberman’s creative team features director of photography Michael Burgess (known for ‘Annabelle Comes Home’ and ‘The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It’), production designer Marc Fisichella (‘Ma’ and ‘The Maze Runner’), editor Luke Ciarrocchi (‘Glass’ and ‘Split’), composers Nathan Barr (‘The House with a Clock in Its Walls’ and ‘The Great’) and Lisbeth Scott (‘American Son’ and ‘Tumble Leaf’), costume designer Virginia Johnson (‘The New Mutants’ and ‘Mile 22’), and first assistant director Jeffrey “JP” Wetzel (‘Malignant’ and ‘Annabelle Comes Home’).

The original ‘Salem’s Lot’ was directed by Tobe Hooper shortly after his work on ‘The Texas Chain Saw Massacre’ in 1979. A new mini-series adaptation followed in 2004.

While the release plans for ‘Salem’s Lot’ remain uncertain, it does appear that we are making progress towards its eventual unveiling. Stay tuned for further updates.
