Parker Finn’s horror flick “Smile,” an adaptation derived from his own short film “Laura Hasn’t Slept,” is set to expand its haunting narrative with “Smile 2” next year. According to Deadline, Naomi Scott (known for “Charlie’s Angels” and “Power Rangers”) has been cast as the lead in Paramount Pictures’ untitled sequel.

Scheduled for release on October 18, 2024, “Smile 2” maintains secrecy around its plot details. The initial film centered on Dr. Rose Cotter (played by Sosie Bacon), who encountered a distressing incident involving a patient, leading to terrifying experiences that defy explanation. As Rose grapples with overwhelming fear taking over her life, she must confront her troubled past to survive and escape a chilling new reality.

While expectations are for the return of the haunting affliction from the first installment, there’s speculation regarding Kyle Gallner’s potential return.

Reflecting on Finn’s debut, I noted, “The curse’s familiarity and formula draw parallels to beloved horror classics. Yet, it’s intricately crafted, introducing a unique mythology with genuine scares. ‘Smile’ delivers a solid crowd-pleaser, especially during the Halloween season.”

Following the box office success of “Smile,” Parker Finn secured a multi-year, first-look deal with Paramount Pictures, marking the sequel as a priority.

“Smile’s remarkable success speaks to Parker’s distinctive and innovative filmmaking. We are thrilled to have him at Paramount,” commented Paramount CEO Brian Robbins.

“Parker has a knack for keeping audiences on the edge of their seats, and we’re excited to continue thrilling them together,” added Paramount’s Michael Ireland and Daria Cercek.

Expect updates on “Smile 2” as details emerge. The first film raked in a staggering $217 million globally last year, virtually guaranteeing a swift arrival of its sequel.
