After his comedic stint in “Vacation Friends” and its yet-to-be-watched sequel for Hulu, Lil Rel Howery is switching genres to star in another Hulu Original. This time, he takes on the lead role in the sci-fi horror film “The Mill,” set to stream on October 9th as part of Hulu’s “Huluween” event. With the release date just over a week away, we’ve got our hands on the trailer for “The Mill,” which you can check out above.

Directed by Sean King O’Grady (“We Need to Do Something”) from a screenplay by Jeffrey David Thomas (“All American: Homecoming”), “The Mill” features Howery as a white-collar businessman who mysteriously wakes up in an open-air prison cell containing only an old grist mill. To survive, he is forced to work as a beast of burden and must find a way to escape before the birth of his child. While Howery takes center stage, the film also includes Scoot McNairy (“Monsters”), Pat Healy (“Station 19”), and Karen Obilom (“House Party”).

Howery, along with O’Grady, produced the film, with Josh Feldman and Jesse Ford joining as producers. Barbara and Brooke Goldner of Altar Rock Pictures serve as executive producers, along with David Worthen Brooks, Arbi Pedrossian, and Jenna Cavelle of 20th Digital Studio.

Known for his comedic roles, Howery’s appearance in a sci-fi horror project like “The Mill” presents an intriguing departure from his usual genre.
