James Wan and Patrick Wilson recently engaged in an interactive session on Reddit in anticipation of the upcoming release of “Insidious: The Red Door.” Fans eagerly asked questions about the Insidious franchise and more, but one response from Wan stood out.

When prompted about his aspirations for a dream project, Wan expressed his interest in adapting H.P. Lovecraft’s renowned short story, “The Call of Cthulhu.” It seems that Wan has quietly explored the possibility of bringing this Lovecraftian tale to life, which was originally published in Weird Tales in February 1928.

During the Reddit AMA, Wan playfully hinted, “I’ve been secretly nurturing my dream project, ‘The Call of Cthulhu,’ for the past five years.”

Lovecraft’s narrative, comprising three interconnected parts, follows the investigations of Boston resident Francis Thurston into the ancient deity Cthulhu. Interestingly, James Wan included a quote from the text in his film Aquaman, adding to his affinity for the story.

The discussion also touched on Wan’s ideal comic book adaptation. In response, he mentioned Dylan Dog, an Italian horror comic series. This comic has already been adapted twice: first in 1994 with “Cemetery Man” and later in 2011 with “Dylan Dog: Dead of Night.”
