Hollywood’s acclaimed horror writer, Akela Cooper, known for her work on films like “Malignant” and “M3GAN,” is embarking on her next project, and Deadline has the inside scoop.

Cooper is set to pen the screenplay for the feature-length adaptation of “It’s Over,” an unpublished short story written by Jack Follman, which Sony Pictures acquired this week.

According to Deadline, the deal was struck in the mid- to high-six-figure range, showcasing the industry’s swift response to this 29-page unpublished short story when it hit the market on the first day writers resumed their work. While keeping the story’s twists and turns under wraps, “It’s Over” takes the painful breakup of a long-term couple and plunges it into the world of horror, skillfully blending elements of humor and social commentary, akin to Cooper’s approach in “M3GAN.”

The film will be produced by Roy Lee’s Vertigo Entertainment, in collaboration with Ground Control.
