Fede Alvarez, renowned for his work on films like “Evil Dead” and “Don’t Breathe,” is at the helm of the next installment in the iconic Alien franchise. This particular film holds significance as it will mark Disney’s maiden foray into the Alien universe.

Fans are eagerly awaiting the theatrical release of Alvarez’s Alien, scheduled for August 16, 2024. The director recently took to Instagram to express his joy at completing principal photography.

Alvarez is directing this brand-new Alien movie in collaboration with Ridley Scott and 20th Century Studios. The film stars Cailee Spaeny, known for her roles in “The Craft: Legacy” and “Pacific Rim Uprising,” in a leading role. Isabela Merced, David Jonsson, Archie Renaux, Spike Fearn, and Aileen Wu also join the cast.

Described as an “original standalone feature,” the plot details have been kept under wraps. However, unlike its predecessors that focused on adult characters in corporate, military, and scientific roles, this ninth installment will revolve around a group of young individuals. On a distant world, they find themselves in a harrowing confrontation with the most terrifying life form in the universe.

Alvarez co-wrote the screenplay with Rodo Sayagues, his collaborator on “Evil Dead.” Ridley Scott, the visionary behind the original 1979 classic and subsequent prequels like “Prometheus” and “Alien: Covenant,” will produce the film through his Scott Free production banner.

The Alien film franchise has an illustrious history, spanning eight movies. Filmmakers such as James Cameron, David Fincher, and Jean-Pierre Jeunet have contributed their unique interpretations of the Xenomorph monsters that Ridley Scott and Dan O’Bannon introduced in the 1970s. The most recent entry in the series was 2017’s “Alien: Covenant,” directed by Ridley Scott himself.

Alvarez’s upcoming Alien movie is not the sole expansion of the franchise. Noah Hawley is developing an Alien TV series for FX, ensuring an exciting Xenomorph-filled future on both the big and small screens. Which of these projects are you most excited to see?
