As anticipation brews for the conclusion of Apple TV+’s series “Monarch: Legacy of Monsters,” fans are also gearing up for the much-anticipated return of Legendary’s Monsterverse on the silver screen. Godzilla and King Kong are set for another epic encounter, but this time, they’re joining forces against a mutual adversary in “Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire,” slated for an exclusive theatrical release on April 12, 2024.

Today, Total Film unveiled three fresh images from the upcoming sequel to “Godzilla vs. Kong,” offering a glimpse into the human characters rather than the monstrous stars of the film.

Rebecca Hall reprises her role as Dr. Ilene Andrews, joined by Brian Tyree Henry returning as Bernie Hayes. They’re set to be joined by Dan Stevens (“The Guest”), portraying a character named Trapper. Stevens describes his character as “a specialist in these creatures… If you’ve got a sick titan, Trap is your guy.”

“Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire” marks the thrilling fifth installment in the Monsterverse series, where the iconic Titans Godzilla and Kong unite to confront a world-threatening menace so formidable that neither could tackle alone.

Adam Wingard, the director behind “Godzilla vs. Kong,” takes the helm once more for “Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire,” scripted by Simon Barrett (“You’re Next,” “The Guest”).

Describing the film’s premise, the team revealed, “This latest entry in the Monsterverse franchise follows up the explosive showdown of Godzilla vs. Kong with an all-new cinematic adventure, pitting the almighty Kong and the fearsome Godzilla against a colossal undiscovered threat hidden within our world, challenging their very existence – and our own.”

The film promises to delve deeper into the histories of these Titans, exploring their origins, the enigmatic Skull Island, and beyond, unraveling the legendary battle that intertwined these extraordinary beings with humankind forever.
