Musician-turned-director Flying Lotus, known for his work on “Kuso” is gearing up for his next project, the highly anticipated sci-fi thriller “Ash.” Today, Deadline reports that Amazon Prime Video has made a significant investment to acquire international rights to the film.

According to Deadline, this acquisition at the early stages of the European Film Market (EFM) is a major one, with Amazon Prime Video securing the deal with XYZ for international rights in what is described as a “high-seven figure pact, nearing $10M.”

“Ash” boasts an impressive cast, including Eiza González (“Baby Driver”), Aaron Paul (“Breaking Bad”), Iko Uwais (“The Raid: Redemption”), Beulah Koale, and Kate Elliott. Notably, the film is produced by Neill Blomkamp (“District 9”).

The storyline of “Ash” revolves around a woman, portrayed by Eiza González, who awakens on a remote planet to discover the brutal slaughter of her space station crew. As she grapples with the aftermath, she must decide whether to trust the man, played by Aaron Paul, sent to rescue her. However, their investigation unleashes a series of terrifying events, prompting doubts about her innocence.

Flying Lotus, in addition to directing the film, will also compose an original score for “Ash.” His enthusiasm for the project is evident, stating, “We are building something fresh and unique with ‘Ash,’ and having Eiza and Aaron in this world just makes it flames.”

The screenplay for “Ash” was penned by Jonni Remmler. XYZ Films and GFC Films are handling production duties, with Blomkamp serving as executive producer alongside Echo Lake Entertainment.
