In an exciting development for comic book enthusiasts and Bruce Campbell fans, the six-issue comic book series, “DC Horror Presents: Sgt. Rock vs. The Army of the Dead,” written by the genre icon himself, is being compiled into a hardcover collection. Aptly titled the “DC Presents: Sgt. Rock vs. The Army of the Dead Hardcover Collection,” this anticipated book is slated for release in October.

The series, featuring artwork by the acclaimed Eisner and Harvey Award-winning artist Eduardo Risso (“100 Bullets”), unfolds in the backdrop of Berlin in 1944. With the Nazis cornered by the combined Allied forces, defeat appears inevitable. In a desperate attempt to alter the course of the war, Hitler and his team of sinister scientists concoct a serum that reanimates their fallen soldiers, creating an army of undead warriors more formidable than the living. Sgt. Rock, the hero of the European Theatre, and his Easy Company, are tasked with venturing deep into enemy territory to confront the most bizarre and horrifying adversaries they’ve ever encountered: Nazi Zombies.

For those less familiar with Sgt. Rock, a character who made his debut in DC’s comics in 1959 (Our Army at War #83), the press release, as shared by AIPT Comics, offers some context. Sgt. Franklin John Rock and his Easy Company have been a cornerstone of DC’s beloved war comics. Created by writer Robert Kanigher and artist Joe Kubert, Sgt. Rock was a soldier renowned for his extraordinary abilities and unwavering determination, engaging Nazis throughout Europe and Northern Africa during World War II. Now, this iconic hero returns in a thrilling and terrifying context, blending action and horror in this contemporary interpretation of a classic DC character.

Notably, there were once plans for a Sgt. Rock movie, with John McTiernan and Shane Black contemplating a film starring Arnold Schwarzenegger in the lead role. However, the project eventually fell apart due to John Cleese declining a co-starring role.
