The French horror thriller Vincent Must Die is getting a U.S. remake.

The film, which was released in theaters last Halloween as part of a double feature with Hallow Road, is now being brought back by Blumhouse Atomic Monster, Vertigo, and AR Content.

According to Variety, David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick (The Conjuring: Last Rites) is attached to write and direct the remake. Roy Lee will produce for Vertigo, with Michael Clear producing for Atomic Monster.

Directed by Stéphan Castang, the original Vincent Must Die follows Vincent, an otherwise ordinary man whose life suddenly becomes a nightmare when people who make eye contact with him begin attacking him for no apparent reason.

And that’s really all it takes. Vincent has to figure out how to survive in a world where simply looking at someone can turn them violent.

The remake will mark Johnson-McGoldrick’s feature directorial debut. He’s already well known in the horror world as the screenwriter behind movies including Orphan, The Conjuring 2, The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It, and The Conjuring: Last Rites.

“I’m so grateful to my collaborators at AR Content, Vertigo and Atomic Monster for bringing me this opportunity and trusting in my vision,” Johnson-McGoldrick said. “I immediately fell in love with the film, and so having a chance to step into this crazy world they created is a dream come true.”

AR Content’s Alexander Rodnyansky also praised the original film and said he’s excited to see Johnson-McGoldrick put his own spin on the story.

“The original Vincent Must Die is an extraordinary and thrilling piece of cinema, and I am honored to help bring this story to an even wider audience,” Rodnyansky said.

Atomic Monster’s Michael Clear added that the team is “thankful” to be working with Johnson-McGoldrick again and is looking forward to bringing the story to a new audience.

There’s currently no word on casting or when the remake will begin filming.
