Jacob Chase isn’t leaving the horror world behind anytime soon.

Fresh off the successful theatrical debut of Insidious: Out of the Further, director Jacob Chase is reuniting with Blumhouse and Atomic Monster for a brand new horror movie titled Sleepover.

Universal Pictures has already set the film for a theatrical release on October 8, 2027.

Plot details are being kept tightly under wraps for now, but Sleepover has been described as a “quintessential sleepover nightmare.” And if your childhood sleepovers involved staying up all night telling scary stories and trying to freak each other out, that description should sound appropriately ominous.

Chase will direct the movie from a screenplay he co-wrote with Bryce McGuire, based on McGuire’s original short story.

McGuire previously wrote and directed Night Swim, another Blumhouse horror movie that was adapted from one of his short films.

Jason Blum is producing Sleepover, with Chase, McGuire, and Bea Sequeira serving as executive producers. Lilly Tyson will oversee the project for Blumhouse.

Jacob Chase Is Staying in the Horror Business

Chase’s new project comes just after the release of Insidious: Out of the Further, which opened at #2 at the U.S. box office, earning $25.3 million domestically from 3,303 theaters and $60.3 million worldwide.

The sixth Insidious movie also reportedly earned the highest audience score on Rotten Tomatoes of any film in the franchise, giving Chase another major horror credit as he moves on to his next nightmare.

Interestingly, Universal had previously reserved the October 8, 2027 release date for an untitled Blumhouse Atomic Monster project. We now know that Sleepover is the movie occupying that slot.

With Chase coming directly off Insidious: Out of the Further and McGuire bringing another horror concept born from a short film, Sleepover is already shaping up to be one particularly unsettling night.
